One-of-a-kind indigo dyeing experience at the capital of “Japan Blue”

Join us for an authentic hands-on experience of traditional indigo dyeing Tokushima has been famous for. Visit to our indigo farms or watching how to make sukumo (fermented indigo) would enhance your learning experience about Awa indigo dyeing.

Join us for a traditional indigo dyeing experience with lye-fermented natural indigo. The techniques have been handed down for hundreds of years. From either cotton canvas bag, scarf, T-shirt or noren (Japanese short curtain) made of various fabrics, choose one item for dyeing.
Big groups and families are welcome. We have a huge dyeing pot about the size of 160 cm (5.2 ft) deep filled with 900 l (237 gal) of indigo dye.
In spring and summer, enjoy the scenery of our indigo farms in front of the studio. In autumn and winter, check out how to make sukumo (fermented indigo).
Immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Awa indigo.
We will show you step by step, so relax and enjoy handcrafting a piece of art. (We take reservations until 6:00 PM on the previous day.)
