Bento boxes originated in Japan and have been integral to the culture for centuries. They are carefully crafted to provide a balanced and satisfying meal that includes a variety of flavors, textures, and colors. From perfectly cooked rice to a selection of vibrant vegetables, tender meats, and savory seafood, bento boxes offer diverse culinary delights. From popular video games and anime characters to animals and nature motifs, Japan is renowned for its creative bento box designs.   


Your host–Grandma Junko–was born and raised in Nagoya. She nurtured her passion for healthy Japanese cooking, went on to open a natural food store, and teaches cooking classes to eager students from all over the world. Grandma Junko puts her heart and soul into the food she prepares, and this seasonal bento box-making class is no exception!   


This cooking class's overall theme, designs, and ingredients are seasonal and will vary depending on when you join the class. Take a look at the seasonal schedule below:   


March to May: Spring cherry blossom viewing design 

June to August: Summer Star Festival design 

September to November: Autumn leaves design 

December to February: Winter snowman design  


Each bento comes with a miso soup filled with seasonal veggies hand selected by a self-professed vegetable sommelier (your host).
