【OBP】Eat Like a Local in Ikebukuro, Akabane, and Jujo

6 hours

Easy

Explore the depachika food basements, shotengai shopping streets, and izakaya gastropubs frequented by locals.
This adventure begins in the entertainment hub of Ikebukuro, then leads to off-the-beaten-path locations, allowing you to experience three distinct Japanese food scenes.

Start in Ikebukuro with a visit to a “depachika,” sampling treats and choosing snacks to share. Move to Jujo's
residential area, to explore a “shotengai,” where you can taste takoyaki, gyoza, dumplings, and chicken, and taste three kinds of shochu or sake. Conclude in Akabane, to try a standing bar (with food and drinks), and eat an izakaya
dinner.

Led by a British host residing in Japan for 17 years, this tour unveils hidden gems. Meet at the information desk at the JR Ikebukuro Station central exit. Your host will be holding a red fan. The drinking age is 20; alternative drinks are provided for minors. The tour is for ages 13 and up (20% off for non-drinkers). Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
