Genkiya
A cozy and welcoming underground izakaya specializing in seasonal dishes.
Located near Shimo-takaido Station, Genkiya is a family-run izakaya dining bar, characterized by its homey and welcoming atmosphere. The owner insists on creating an environment where customers will feel at ease, relaxed, and comfortable. Keeping this in mind, all seats at Genkiya have an abundance of leg space beneath the tables — guests won't find any traditional floor seating here.
An open kitchen-style izakaya specializing in seasonal dishes, the most popular dish at Genkiya is the grilled mackerel, or aburi-jime, which involves using a blowtorch to sear the fish. The owner also recommends the juicy Japanese-style fried chicken wings with a homemade sauce, made the same way for over 20 years. In addition to the wide selection of alcohol, Genkiya serves the popular bamboo sake.
Additionally, there is a dedicated arm-wrestling stand in the izakaya, perfect for enjoying with friends, family, and even the staff. Since Genkiya is located away from the city center, Genkiya has a more local feel to it, creating a cozy atmosphere.
